How many foundations are pass-throughs versus endowed? (FAQ)

Some private foundations lack significant endowments. Instead, they rely on regular contributions or other income.

In addition to the joint Urban Institute-GuideStar-Foundation Center analyses of private foundations, we also

examined "pass-through foundations" using our NCCS Core data. The attached summary shows our findings.
