This survey, available upon request from the Urban Institute, was sponsored by the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP). The 44 question written survey focused on several areas:
- Identifying organizations that presented performing arts
- Measuring the activities and facilities of these organizations (number of contracts, performances, seating capacity, etc.)
- Organizational capacity and sustainability - Organizations were asked to rate their organization on more than 15 measures using a five point scale.
- Staff - number, salaries, etc.
- Audience development efforts
- Basic finances
- Endowments and reserves
- Use of technology
The sample was drawn randomly from the Unified Database of Arts Organizations and the general contact database of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. Additionally, all APAP members received the survey.
