The Nonprofit FAQ

Are there advanced educational opportunities in East & Central Europe?
Králik Miklós wrote to ARNOVA-L on October 5, 1999 with the subject of
University/College level Third Sector Studies in Central and Eastern Europe.
Electronic resource center. Introduction.

Some months ago we conducted an exploratory survey to find out more about
third
sector studies in East- and Central-Europe in sight of a future Third
Sector Institute (TSI) which would promote University/College level Third
Sector Studies in CEE countries. The TSI project was co-chaired by Miklos
Marschall and Robert Payton.

I am delighted to let you know that due to friendly help and
interest in the idea now we have a treasure of information collected and
organized on University/College level Third Sector Studies in the region
and we dispose a comprehensive contact list -base for a future network- of
those who might be interested in the future of Third Sector Studies.

In the forthcoming months our aim is to maintain and develop an
electronic-virtual resource center for third sector studies in the region,
which could facilitate our work to develop a better understanding of the
nonprofit sector and to strenghten an electronic network of people
interested in the issue. Thanks to the generous support of Indiana Center
on Philanthropy, Indianapolis, USA, the maintenance and development of an
electronic resource center and of a network gained further support.

In the next couple of months the virtual center will offer the following
services for anyone interested in the future of nonprofit teaching in
Central Eastern Europe:

  • Web site, continously updated, focusing on Third Sector Studies
    issues
  • Provision of continously updated information and contacts on Third
Sector Studies in Central Eastern Europe and other relevant issues, by
    request
  • Provision of other relevant information;
  • Discussion group
  • Promoting the exchange of information and ideas

I would like to invite you to explore the viability of this virtual
electronic "third sector institute" , and of the network as well. If you
have any questions or comments concerning the Third Sector Institute
network or the resource center I would be more then pleased to answer to
them. Please send your questions and requests to the following address:
kralik@elender.hu

Further information will be posted as it becomes available about the state
of the project and about
available services (Web-site address, discussion group address, etc.) I
would be more than grateful to you, if you could also forward this letter
to those who might have some interest in Third Sector Studies in CEE.

Sincerely,

Miklos Kralik
