Where are regional and local nonprofit jobs listed?
On September 10, 2001, Donald A. Griesmann, Esq., Ventnor, NJ, prepared this list of nonprofit employment sites; it is no longer being updated.

A general introduction to all the career-related information at Idealist is found at http://www.idealist.org/if/i/en/faq/928-310/295-201.

Regional and Local

Craig's List started in San Francisco as a local source for NPO jobs but has
in recent years spread to select cities in the U.S., Canada and Australia for
nonprofit openings, http://www.craigslist.org. The U.S. cities include
Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, Denver, New York City, Portland OR,
Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and in Canada, Vancouver and
in Australia, Sydney and Melbourne. the list is growing. Nonprofit
organizations may post openings without charge although there is a $75 fee
for for-profit companies. Nonprofits must file a copy demonstrating their
U.S. 501(c)(3) determination or the Federal Employer Identification Number
(EIN) and have an annual budget less than $5 million. From Canada and
Australia, I suggest you contact the site.

States, local communities and regions have web sites covering a variety of
issues confronting nonprofits and they also list openings in the local area.
Some samples of state to local efforts include the Minnesota Council of
Nonprofits, http://www.mncn.org/jobs, the Kansas City PhilanthroNet NPO where
opportunities can be found at http://www.kcphilnet.org/jobsourc/. Another
significant site is BAJobs http://www.bajobs.com. There you can search NPO
openings in the San Francisco area by keywords, company or category from
'Accounting' to 'Web Design'; employers may post openings starting at $100
for members and $125 for nonmembers for 30 days, with package rates
available. Jobseekers can post resumes for free. The site for Professionals
for Nonprofits, http://www.pnp-inc.com, has contacts with 700 NPOs in the
greater New York City area for both temporary and permanent jobs. There are
also opportunities with the Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama,
http://www.nrca.info, and for Austin, TX, NPO job
opportunities, a limited number of offerings, at
http://www.main.org/communjobs/. For the Puget Sound, Washington area, advice
to jobseekers is offered at http://www.mnpl.org/find/. Sound Opportunities
keeps track of openings around the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon)
at http://www.soundop.com/. For employment in nonprofits in Chicago,
Illinois take a look at http://npo.net/.

In general, check your local nonprofit center or other state entity for
openings. There are state-by-state lists of nonprofit resource organizations
here at the Internet Nonprofit Center; see
