What is National Volunteer Week?

National Volunteer Week is part of the Seasons of Service emphasis area at the Points of Light Foundation: see http://www.pointsoflight.org/programs/seasons/default.cfm Nan Hawthorne said in VOLUNTEERS on Thu, February 27, 1997: National Volunteer Recognition Week is April 3-9 this year. I hate to admit this, but I actually don't know WHO determines the date! Anyone know? Points of Light Foundation? Association for Volunteer Administration? And many programs use that week as a special time set aside to honor volunteers. (I personally think giving folks satisfying, rewarding, well thought out jobs beats the heck out of throwing an annual party, but....) Georgean C. Johnson said on VOLUNTEERS on Thu, February 27, 1997: National Volunteer Week was always determined by the National Volunteer Center which merged with the Points of Light Foundation a few years ago. So I guess that means it is now determined by POLF. Anne Ostberg said in NSSCTALK on June 2 1996: Many thanks to all who used National Volunteer Week as an opportunity for media attention. Our tracking service has provided us with dozens of articles, many based on the boiler plate release templates provided by Public Affairs. Kay Larson on April 9 1996: At the University of Washington, we give each club president a plaque when he/she goes out of office. We invite volunteers to special UW banquets as UWAA guests. For the first time this year, we are sending all of our 400 volunteers a letter during National Volunteer Week telling them how much we appreciate what they do for the UW and the UWAA.
