Can religious organizations use religion as a criterion when selecting employees?
From 2002 to 2008, the Roundtable on Religion and Social Welfare Policy developed an extensive online archive of materials related to this question. Though the project is no longer adding new materials, the archive is maintained at http://www.religionandsocialpolicy.org/

During the administration of President George W. Bush, there were several efforts to expand the ability of faith-based organizations receiving federal support for their work to use religions affiliation as a criterion in hiring. With the inauguration of President Barack Obama, many observers expect these efforts to be scaled back.
